One of Paul Sawyier's favorite scenes is the rock formation on the elkhorn Creek on land known as Church's Grove. There are many legends about the rock which is locally known as Indian Head Rock, but the source remains unknown.
This particular watercolor is unusual because of its size and that it is one of Sawyier's rare vertical paintings. This work has remained in remarkable condition for being over 100 years old.
